How Should Apocaps be Used - some considerations?
- It is recommended reducing the dose of Apocaps to a half or quarter dose if you are using prednisone or any NSAIDs. Or, if preferred by your veterinarian, you could reduce the dose of the prednisone, prednisolone or NSAID to half or quarter dose, instead. It is also recommend giving Apocaps with a full meal in these cases.
- Considerations for using Apocaps before surgery are the same as recommendations for using fish oil: it’s at the veterinarian’s discretion. Some veterinarians may suggest stopping Apocaps three days prior to surgery, and then resuming once healing from the surgery is complete.
- There have been no reported adverse consequences or interactions of Apocaps use in dogs on seizure control medications. However, in human literature, there are reports of glutamine decreasing the effectiveness of seizure control medication in people. A small amount of L-Glutamine is used in Apocaps. As with all health care steps for your dog, consult with your veterinarian before using Apocaps. If this is not possible, we advise avoiding the use of Apocaps use in dogs on seizure control medication as the very safest recommendation.
- My dog is on antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids from fish and krill oil, and vitamins - can I give Apocaps to my dog? Yes, you can give Apocaps to your dog if she is on antioxidants; just give them at separate times of day. Antioxidants may interfere with the effect of Apocaps; so give them a minimum of three hours apart. Often antioxidants are given with meals, so time your Apocaps doses between meals on an empty stomach or with a very small amount of food for best effects. There is some evidence that giving Apocaps in the late morning (10-11 AM) and/or the late evening (10-11 PM) may be most effective, making that an ideal time to give, especially if you are giving antioxidants at mealtimes.
Apocaps recommended daily feeding dosages with metric converstions:
Administer orally with 1 -2 tablespoons of food to reduce incidence of gastrointestinal upset.
5 lbs (2.25kg) to 10 lbs (4.5kg) - 1 capsule, twice daily
10.1 lbs (4.6kg) to 20 lbs (9kg) - 2 capsules, twice daily
20.1 lbs (9.1kg) to 40 lbs (18.1kg) - 3 capsules in the morning and 2 capsules in the evening
40.1 lbs (18.2kg) to 60 lbs (27.25kg) - 3 capsules, twice daily
Over 60 lbs (27.25kg) - 3 capsules, 3 times daily

All orders placed before 3.30pm* will be dispatched the same working day. Orders placed after 3.30pm* will be dispatched on the following working day. *Courier deliveries have an earlier cut-off.
For courier deliveries, order cut off for same day dispatch is 1.30pm. Orders placed after 1.30pm on a Friday will be dispatched on the following Monday for delivery on Tuesday (or Wednesday for UK special postcodes).
Saturdays, Sundays and all Bank & Public Holidays are classed as non-working days and orders will be dispatched on the next working day.
