Accidents happen, and having a few first aid essentials ready at home means you can deal calmly with the scrapes, scratches and minor wounds that are part of life with a cat. Our natural cat first aid range centres on gentle antiseptic creams, soothing wound sprays and lotions that help clean and protect minor injuries, all chemical-free and kind to your cat's skin. Here's how to put together a simple kit and use it safely.

What to keep in a cat first aid kit

  • A natural antiseptic cream or wound spray to clean and protect minor cuts and grazes
  • Sterile gauze and a soft bandage or self-adhesive wrap
  • Round-ended scissors and tweezers (handy for ticks and grass seeds)
  • Cotton wool or pads and a small bowl for cleaning
  • Disposable gloves and your vet's phone number

Natural antiseptic creams and wound care

For everyday nicks and scrapes, a natural antiseptic cream for cats helps keep a minor wound clean while it heals, without the harsh chemicals found in some conventional products. Our wound sprays and creams use gentle, naturally antibacterial ingredients to soothe the area and support your cat's own healing, and being chemical-free, they're kinder if your cat licks the spot. Keeping the surrounding skin and coat healthy also helps minor wounds recover.

How to clean a minor wound

If your cat has a small graze or scratch, gently clean away any dirt with cooled boiled water or a pet-safe saline solution, pat the area dry, and apply a thin layer of antiseptic cream. Keep an eye on it over the next few days. Most minor wounds heal well on their own, but cats are very good at hiding discomfort, so it's worth checking the area daily.

When it's more than first aid

First aid products are only for minor, superficial wounds. Please contact your vet straight away if you notice a deep wound, a bite (cat bites very commonly turn into abscesses), heavy bleeding, swelling, heat, pus or a bad smell, or if your cat seems unwell, off their food or in pain. These need professional treatment, often antibiotics, and shouldn't be managed with first aid products alone.

Helping your cat recover

If your cat is healing from a wound, an operation or illness, our conditioning and recovery range can help support them back to full health, and looking after their overall wellbeing aids recovery too. As always, it's worth checking with your vet before introducing anything new.
