Boswellia

Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian frankincense, is a tree native to India and surrounding regions. Its aromatic resin has been used for thousands of years in traditional Ayurvedic medicine and is particularly valued for its natural anti-inflammatory properties.

The resin contains a group of active compounds known as boswellic acids, including AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid). These compounds have been widely studied for their anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-modulating properties. AKBA is of particular interest because of its ability to influence 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), an enzyme involved in the body's inflammatory pathways.
