A natural, soil-based biocontrol agent for the control of fungal and yeast infections in dogs, cats and horses.

Propythium is an effective, natural solution for a range of stubborn fungal conditions in dogs, cats and horses. When applied to the affected areas, this patented natural remedy deploys natural mycoparasitism to help remove any problem yeasts or fungi in the area. When combined with its natural antibacterial properties and pharmaceutical-grade oliver oil, Propythium ear cleaner will help to relieve your dog, cat, or horse of the itchy, irritating symptoms related to certain infections.

The key, patented component of this product is a harmless little microscopic algae called Pythium oligandum. It normally lives in the soil where it works via mycoparasitism, consuming other fungi and yeast for survival. It also has an antibacterial effect in the area while it is present. Once it has eaten all the fungi/yeast present it encapsulates and returns to the earth where it came from.

Useful for: Propythium ear cleaner combines the anti fungal and antibacterial properties of Pythium with pharmaceutical-grade olive oil. It will help relieve your dog, cat or horse of the symptoms of fungal or bacterial ear infections.

How Propyhtium works

Propythium contains an incredible microscopic, non-pathogenic (doesn’t harm plants or animals) algae-like organism that normally lives in the soil. There are over 50 species of it so far discovered but among the most useful are those discovered around the roots of many plants around the world, in particular Pythium oligandrum.

It works via mycoparasitism. In essence, it consumes other fungi for survival. It attacks those organisms, extracting nutrients such as nitrogen, carbon, and nutrients for reproduction, and killing the organism in the process. It then creates zoospores that actively seek out more of that fungi and it’s spores.

P. oligandum is also antibacterial. It secretes enzymes that curb bacterial growth in the area so it is not disturbed while it’s doing its thing. Better still, studies show that despite a reduction in any pathogenic bacteria present, it does not induce significant shifts in the hose bacterial flora in the process (Vallance et al. 2009 & 2012). Best of all, once resources (any yeast / fungi present) are depleted, P. oligandrum encapsulates and soon leaves its host to its natural environment, at which point all normal microflora returns activity can return to the area.

How do I know if this is a yeast issue?
The problem with fungal skin infections with symptoms such as irritated, itchy skin and ears is that they can look like bacterial infections to the untrained eye. Itchy feet, a class place for yeast issues to develop, are just as often caused by food intolerances or upset gut flora. So first, you should familiarise yourself with what the classic tell tale signs of a fungal skin infection are.

Once you suspect it’s fungal, you have two choices. If positive, pick up the appropriate Pythium product. However, if still unsure, you can pick up a quick home test kit here. Once the kit arrives you swab the affected area, post it off, the lab takes a look and in days you will know for sure. That way you’re not wasting your time buying the wrong products.
